They say that in order to become a good writer, you need to write a million words. That's about four decent sized books, although if you add in re-writes, corrections and short stories then it sounds about right for two books. If you write one book, do a re-write, write a second book, give that one a re-write or two then by the third book you should have figured out what you are doing. That adds up to about a million words.
This is true of almost everything - one needs to practice, practice, practice! It does not matter if you want to be a piano player, an architect or a computer programmer. The more you do something, the better you become at it.
Originally, I had wanted this site to be a collection of interconneted stories that all took place in the same "world" so that the side character of one story could be the main character in another story and have a cameo in a third. What happened in one story would affect what happened in another. However, I couldn't come up with a "great golden idea" that I wanted to devote a million words to. Instead this site is a collection of stories that I post as I write them. Most will be short, the longest would be the NaNoWriMo stories.
I'm probably more than a little insane in trying to write a million words simply for the sake of writing a million words, but here we are. You are a writer if you write and that's what I plan on doing. Becoming a professional writer and getting paid for it is a different matter and at the moment I am not planning on trying to be published in traditional dead tree format, but that may change if I become good enough.
Onwards and upwards!
